Since January 1, 2023, there has been a cap on insulin for Medicare beneficiaries. The cap applies to those who have Part D prescription drug coverage, whether through a stand-alone plan or as part of a Medicare Advantage plan. (The cap also applies to insulin administered via a pump under Part B, medical insurance.) Part D enrollees will pay no more than $35 for “an insulin that is included on a Part D sponsor’s formulary.” The plan’s deductible does not apply. Mortgage rates continued their upward climb this week, further hindering demand in the housing market amid elevated rates and high home prices. Freddie Mac’s latest Primary Mortgage Market Survey, released Thursday, showed that the average rate on the benchmark 30-year fixed mortgage surged to 6.44% from last week’s reading of 6.32%. The average rate on a 30-year loan was 7.63% a year ago. “The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage increased for the third consecutive week, moving closer to 6.5%,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist.  “In general, higher rates reflect the strength in the economy that is supportive of the housing market,”…

The Biden-Harris administration on Thursday announced another round of student loan handouts, removing $4.5 billion in debt for more than 60,000 borrowers who work in public service. The Department of Education said in a news release the relief came about from “significant fixes” to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The action brings the total loan forgiveness approved by President Biden to more than $175 billion for 4.8 million Americans, including $74 billion for more than one million borrowers through PSLF.”When President Biden and I took office, only 7,000 people had ever been approved for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.…

The National Football League’s Cleveland Browns are leaving the shores of Lake Erie.The Browns plan to leave their current open-air stadium in the city of Cleveland for a yet-to-be-built domed stadium in Brook Park, Ohio, according to a press release from Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb that was later confirmed by the Browns owners.Jimmy and Dee Haslam, the principals of the ownership group that owns the Browns, notified Bibb of their plan to move on Wednesday night, according to Bibb. Netflix earned $5.40 per share on $9.83 billion in revenue, while analysts forecast $5.12 a share and $9.77 billion in revenue. The company also said its ad-tier memberships jumped 35% quarter over quarter. Losses from Hurricane Milton could reach as high as $34 billion, according to an early estimate of both flood and wind damage from research firm CoreLogic, with between $4 billion to $6 billion of those losses being uninsured flood damage. And that is only an estimate of losses caused directly by the hurricane itself, and it doesn’t include any damage from at least nine tornados that accompanied the storm.
