Sudan’s military said on Saturday that the evacuation of foreign diplomats and citizens from the country has begun after a week of battles that have hindered rescue efforts. The military said in a statement that Saudi diplomats had been evacuated, and that the UK, US, France and China were expected to send military aircraft to Khartoum to evacuate their diplomats in “the coming hours”.Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said the kingdom evacuated 157 people including 91 Saudis and citizens of other countries. Chief Justice John Roberts has declined to directly respond to a congressional request to investigate Justice Clarence Thomas’ alleged ethical lapses. Roberts instead referred the request from Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin to the Judicial Conference, which serves as the policy-making body of the federal courts. The Illinois Democrat had penned a letter urging Roberts to investigate Thomas after a ProPublica report that found that Thomas had gone on several luxury trips at the invitation of a GOP megadonor.
