The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, evidence the labor market is continuing to soften in the face of higher borrowing costs. Figures released Thursday by the Labor Department show initial claims for the week ended April 15 rose by 5,000 to 245,000. Lawmakers in the European Parliament have approved the world’s first comprehensive package of rules aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency industry.In a vote Thursday, the EU Parliament voted 517 in favor and 38 against to pass the Markets in Crypto Act, or MiCA. An employee at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sent confidential data about hundreds of thousands of consumer accounts to their personal email, the agency told CNN on Thursday. Approximately 14 emails included consumer personally identifiable information, or PII. The employee also sent two spreadsheets that listed names and transaction-specific account numbers related to about 256,000 consumer accounts at one institution. “The numbers are used internally by the institution, are not the consumers’ bank account numbers, and cannot be used to gain access to a consumer’s account,” the CFPB said.
