The Justice Department on Friday asked the Supreme Court to take up an appeals court ruling that struck down a Trump-era federal ban on so-called bump stocks. The request comes as the high court has repeatedly declined to disturb those rulings that favor the restriction on the device, including not considering a challenge to the federal ban in October. With the U.S. stock market closed on Good Friday, investors will have the weekend to digest an employment report that moved fed-funds-futures traders to bet on an increased chance of the Federal Reserve hiking interest rates early next month. The numbers: Mortgage rates dipped to the lowest level in two months, but buyers are still finding the housing market challenging as the number of homes for sale remain low.  The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.28% as of April 4, according to data released by Freddie Mac on Thursday.  The 30-year was at the lowest level in eight weeks.
