U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.23%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The best performers of the session on the were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:), which rose 6.15% or 10.57 points to trade at 182.57 at the close. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) added 0.94% or 1.52 points to end at 162.53 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) was up 0.89% or 2.98 points to 336.89 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:), which fell 4.51% or 2.27 points to trade at 48.04 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) declined 3.62% or 18.28 points to end at 486.20 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) was down 2.16% or 2.18 points to 98.75.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were SVB Financial Group (OTC:) which rose 69.77% to 0.93, Signature Bank (OTC:) which was up 27.39% to settle at 0.19 and First Republic Bank (NYSE:) which gained 12.40% to close at 14.14.

The worst performers were CDW Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 13.23% to 165.12 in late trade, Elevance Health Inc (NYSE:) which lost 5.33% to settle at 457.33 and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:) which was down 5.20% to 14.96 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SAITECH Global Corp (NASDAQ:) which rose 67.53% to 4.20, China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 64.44% to settle at 1.11 and Jupiter Wellness Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:) which gained 48.51% to close at 10.47.

The worst performers were Allarity Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 43.54% to 0.65 in late trade, SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:) which lost 34.29% to settle at 1.60 and Oblong Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 32.17% to 2.34 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1591 to 1352 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1806 rose and 1784 declined, while 161 ended unchanged.

Shares in Allarity Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 43.54% or 0.51 to 0.65.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.63% or 12.75 to $2,006.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.20% or 1.78 to hit $79.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.06% or 1.75 to trade at $83.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.50% to 134.76.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 101.67.
