Some notable figures have dropped off Forbes’ annual billionaires list.
Failed crypto-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, along with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, were bumped off the list after a series of public controversies last year.
Bankman-Fried’s net worth tumbled from $24 billion in 2022 to less than $10 million, according to Forbes wealth reporter Richard J. Chang. The entrepreneur is facing fraud charges after the implosion of his companies FTX and Alameda Research in November. He has pleaded not guilty.
Bankman-Fried was fired as FTX’s CEO shortly after the company collapsed and has since been extradited to the US where he was placed under house arrest.
Ye’s wealth dropped to around $400 million from $2 billion, per Forbes. The rapper and entrepreneur was dropped from many of his partnerships after making a series of offensive comments, including spouting antisemitic rhetoric on social media.
Adidas terminated its partnership with Yeezy in October, following the rapper’s remarks. It was a move that reportedly left the company with Yeezy merchandise worth more than $500 million and caused it to take a $247 million hit to its profits.
More than 250 people fell off the Forbes rich list this year, including the founders of Wayfair, Niraj Shah and Steve Conine. However, Forbes’ Chang said the number of people revoked from the list was less than in 2022 when around 360 people lost their billionaire status.
Bernard Arnault and his family topped the list with a net worth of $211 billion, according to Forbes. The publication cited Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as having the biggest wealth drop — around $57 billion — of the year.
Elon Musk was also dethroned from his former first-place position. Forbes estimated the billionaire had around $39 billion knocked off his total net worth last year.
Representatives for Bankman-Fried declined to comment. Ye could not immediately be reached for comment.
