Creature Comforts, a startup that wants to dramatically improve veterinary care, has raised $8.5 million in fresh funds.

The London-based startup, founded this year, plans to open two veterinary clinics in the city by the start of 2024 as part of an offering that will see it offer customers vet care as a subscription. For £20 (around $24.40) a month, users will have access to 24/7 telehealth care for pets via its app alongside a variety of consultations, check-ups, and costs like dental care and vaccinations.

“After getting dogs during Covid I was struck by how difficult it was to get appointments and quality service,” Attia told Insider. “We saw an opportunity to make an archaic industry more effective for customers and more transparent on pricing. A lot of itinerary practices are underfunded but we like the margins and why people get into the business because of their love of animals.”

Alongside the launch of its app where users can access veterinary care, Creature Comforts plans to open two sites in London early next year, including one in the exclusive St John’s Wood area. Users will be able to access licensed vets via the company’s app to help with preventative care

The round was co-led by Torch Capital, Hanaco VC, and Boost Capital Partners, alongside Active Partners, Initial Capital and Vet One. “Both of us founders have a great track record which helps in this market and we have relationships with all of our investors,” Attia, who formerly founded estate agency Yopa, added.

“This is a business model which is doing really well in the US, we have a great team and we’re using tech to try to catch the customer experience up to where it should be in this country.”

Funding will also go towards building out the company’s tech team and its veterinary operations.
